Court Extends Elections Case Examination Period

Constitutional court has extended the period of examining witnesses in presidential elections case with five days.

When the court resumed on Tuesday morning the judge announced that the case will be heard for 14 days not 9 days as had been declared on August 23 before it was adjourned.

“This means that examination which has started on September 3 will end on September 20,” said Judge

After the declaration attorney general Kalekeni Kaphale cross examined second witness Mirriam Gwalidi until noon.

Kaphale handed over to Tamanda Chokotho as per his announcement when he had begun cross examining Gwalidi.

Before Chokotho begun cross examining Gwalidi the judge rejected the objection of lawyer of the second witness to limit the cross examination saying the case is crucial hence the details are required.

During the examination Chokotho appealed to the court to scrap some notes in the sworn statement because they were authored by another person.

However, lawyer of Gwalidi objected Chokotho’s appeal saying “they were official because were signed by registrar.”

Ruling on the matter the judge declined to scrap the notes as evidence
