President Rejects To Fire MEC Chair

Political analyst has said the speech of the president will negatively affect the dialogue on demonstrations between attorney general and Human Rights defenders coalition HRDC.

Humphrey Mvula has made the remarks after Professor Peter Muthalika through BBC interview said will not fire Malawi Electoral Commission MEC chairperson Justice Dr Jane Ansah as demanded by HRDC.

“It is shocking to hear the president who is supposed to preach peace and call for mediation in the political crisis making such devastating remarks,”Mvula said

He adds that the remarks might inflame the current political situation in the country as the protesters might resort to violence.

Mvula said the president was supposed to handle the issue with calm regardless of the outcomes of the constitutional court.

Another meeting between attorney general and HRDC is expected to take place on Wednesday August 4 2019.

Supreme court of appeal ordered the two parties to discuss the demonstrations after banning them for 14 days
