DPP Pleads With HRDC to Respect Constitution

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has pleaded with Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) leaders to respect the rule of law.

DPP Regional Governor Charles Mchacha for the south made the appeal during a mass rally held at Zingwangwa in Blantyre.

Mchacha who is also Deputy Minister of Transport and Public Works said the constitution of Malawi recognizes the right to demonstration but in a peaceful manner.

“Malawians are free to hold demonstrations but they should not violet other people’s rights,” Mchacha said

He commended people of the area for voting for DPP candidates.

In his remarks Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South, Noel Lipipa, thanked DPP regional office for organizing a rally in his area.

Speaking earlier, one of the 2019 Presidential candidates, Reverend Kaliya, advised politicians to accept the defeat.

“Though it is painful to lose there is need for Malawians to bury the differences and move forward for the betterment of the country,” said Kaliya

The rally was organized to thank people of the area for voting DPP parliamentary candidate in May 21 tripartite elections.
