DVV international for 3 percent adult literacy budget

DVV international has expressed hope that government will meet international standard of allocating 3 percent of educational budget to adult literacy sector

Speaking during a media workshop on adult literacy DVV International communications officer Dyson Mthawanji said little funding continues to hamper provision of service in the country

Among other challenges Mthawanji said up to now literacy instructors are receiving 15 000 kwacha a month which he said is a demotivation

He also mentioned lack of proper structures for the provision of the service as classes takes place in churches and ignored structures

Meanwhile Mthawanji said plans to launch policy and strategy documents which were finalized in 2020 to 2022 respectively are underway.

He said the documents which will enhance coordination and communication among stakeholders as we as serve as reference points in terms of guiding implementation of literacy programs
