Government withdraws vacating lockdown injunction

Government through office of Attorney General has withdrawn its decision to challenge the interlocutory injunction on 21 days lockdown obtained by Human Rights Defenders Coalition.

Speaking with Radio Islam, high court registrar, Agnes Patemba said the office is no longer interested in vacating the injunction after presenting its arguments challenging it on Tuesday.

“In skeleton arguments government asked the court to discharge with cost the permission for judicial review,” says Patemba

High court Judge Kenyatta Nyirenda granted a 7 day injunction to HRDC on Friday 17th April as government was ready to implement a 21 day lockdown on 18th April, 2020.

In its application HRDC asked government to provide necessary requirements to citizens before the implementing the lockdown.
