Majilis Ulama Council of Malawi donates clothes to cyclone survivors

Majilis Ulama Council of Malawi has urged victims of cyclone Freddy not to sell items donated by well-wishers in their respective camps.

Vice chairperson for the council, Sheikh Swalehy Chilundu said this after donating 6 bales of second hand clothes to 2474 people at Mitawa camp in Mulanje Limbuli.

Speaking to radio Islam Sheikh Chilundu said they donated the items as a way of adhering to Islam’s teachings that encourage reaching out to those in need of help.

In his remarks, Member of Parliament for Mulanje Limbuli, Daudi Chida commended called upon government to speed up the process of relocating victims of cyclone to new places for them to start new life.

He said there are more victims who are not in the camp and have no access to any help since their areas are inaccessible.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Javineti Goodson who is area Development Committee chairperson for Traditional Authority Njema in Mulanje said TA Njema has 18 camps accommodating over 1000 households whose lives will never be the same because they lost everything.

He asked government to open admarc markets in the area so that people can buy maize for their survival.
