Malawi’s 2018 International Trade Fair Starts At Low Note

This year’s International Trade fair has begun at a low note in Blantyre.

A visit to some of the pavilions that have been erected at Chichiri International trade fair grounds found that large space is not occupied as some participants backed down.

To the surprise of many people the fair which is always opened by president and government officials, was opened by chief executive officer of Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry MCCCI Chancellor Kaferapanjira.

Speaking during the opening Kaferapanjira blamed political tension the country is experiencing as the main contributing factor towards the low patronage.

However, Kaferapanjira said official opening of the trade fair will be announced in due course.

“Out of the 3 countries that confirmed their participation only two have made it,” Kaferapanjira revealed

He has commended 187 participants for deciding to showcase their products during this year’s fair.

In his remarks, Indian ambassador to Malawi Anurag Busham expressed satisfaction with the business relationship between the two countries.

Busham promised to strengthen the relationship by increasing amount of products that his country buys from Malawi.
