MEC Engages Peace Committee on By-Elections

Mangochi District Peace and Unity Committee has hailed Malawi Electoral Commission for re-launching Mwansa by-election.

Speaking during a meeting the commission has with the committee, its executive member Frank Bamusi said the process has helped to resolve vote rigging fears that people had in the ward.

According to Bamusi all contesting political parties have agreed to take part in the vote processes by ensuring that only those that are eligible are registering.

He adds that the parties have agreed to ensure the registration and voter inspection excise which started yesterday is done in a transparent manner.

In his remarks, commissioner Dr Antony Mukumbwa assured stakeholders that MEC is committed to ensure a free, fair, credible election and strictly abide by electoral laws.

Mukumbwa has commended political parties for working together to ensure only eligible people register to vote.

MEC postponed voting processes in Mwansa ward following allegations of registration of under-aged people in the voters roll.
