New Electoral Coalition Falls-Apart

Peoples Party PP which is led by former President of Malawi Dr Joyce Banda has withdrawn from a new electoral alliance it formed with UTM of vice president Dr Saulos Chilima, AFORD and Tikonze Peoples Movement (another political coalition) last week.

Spokesperson of PP Ackson Kalaire Banda has confirmed to Radio Islam saying UTM has failed to abide by their agreement and spirit of solidality.

Banda said they had agreed that UTM should pick the running mate of the alliance from PP but this has not been done until today.

He said Dr Joyce Banda will submit her nomination paper to Malawi Electoral Commission to contest in the forthcoming tripartite elections.

PP has withdrawn from the coalition few days after Dr Banda spoke to BBC where she stressed that Dr Chilima would lead the coalition and she would not vie for the vice presidency.

She was defeated by President Professor Peter Mutharika in 2014 tripartite elections.

Dr Banda became president of Malawi after the death of former president the late Bingu Wa Mutharika who was the brother to the incumbent president professor Peter Mutharika.
