Police Officers trained to curb violence at Dzaleka refugee camp

Police officers have been equipped with knowledge to deal with gender based violence at Dzaleka refugee camp.

United Nations High Commission for Refugees UNHCR organized the training in partnership with Malawi Police Service because the violence remains high at the camp.

Speaking during the opening of the three day training representative of UNHCR Mary Kwanjana said “we targeted Dowa police officers as they are assigned to work at the camp on monthly basis.”

Commissioner of police responsible for central region Evalista Chisale pointed out that the training was going to help participants share knowledge and skills on dealing with gender based violence and laws on protection of refugees.

Commissioner Chisale advised the participants to share the knowledge with others who did not attend the training.
