Anthrax Outbreak in Zambia

Ministry of health in Malawi has announced that Anthrax outbreak has been confirmed in neighbouring Zambia

Secretary for health Dr Samson Mndolo says the outbreak has affected several provinces including the Eastern province which borders Malawi

However Mndolo says Malawi has not confirmed any case of Anthrax in both humans and animals

According to him Malawi will continue working with government of Zambia, Africa CDC and World Health Organisation in monitoring the situation

Mndolo adds that surveillance has been intensified in health facilities and points of entry to detect any suspected cases and notify the public health facilities

Additionaly the country is ready to respond in the event of a suspected case through laboratory confirmation and case management

Anthrax disease is transmitted from infected livestock or wild game animals to humans
