Drama At Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe Burial

There was drama during burial of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi when member of the royal family, stopped moderator of Livingstonia Synod, Reverend Levi Nyondo from speaking during the ceremony.

The conflict erupted after Nyondo said president of Malawi Congress party Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Dr Saulos Chilima should speak at the ceremony.

However, representative of the royal family interrupted him saying “protocol does not allow speeches after guest of honour.”

Minister of local government and rural Development, Kondwani Nankhumwa spoke on behalf of state president professor Peter Mutharika who was guest of honour.

In response, a member representing Livingstonia Synod said “during such functions in future, the program line up should be made in consultation with the church.”

In his speech, Nankhumwa said royal families must resolve chieftaincy issues amicably without involvement of courts.

Other notable politicians at the funeral ceremony were Atupele Muluzi of United Democratic Front and Enock Chihana of Alliance for Democracy AFORD.
