Government launches 2023/2028 Development Fund for Local Authorities strategic plan

Government has launched the 2023 to 2028 Development Fund for Local Authorities strategic plan in order to develop Malawi

Speaking during the launch Deputy Minister of local government, unity and culture Owen Chomanika says there is need to be allocating more funds to local councils to effectively implement development activities

Chomanika said many councils are still underdeveloped due to lack of funding and proper strategies but was quick to say that government will empower counicls to be able to borrow funds for development

The deputy minister expressed optimism that the strategic plan will help councils to improve their operations and development activities

Chief executive officer for Development Fund for Local Authorities Cydex Makunje said the plan will promote independence, sustainability and growth of local councils
