Human Rights Defenders Coalition HRDC security personnel have chased a person who planned to petrol bomb its car during a meeting with attorney general in Lilongwe.
The incident happened when the grouping was outside waiting for the meeting with Kalekeni Kaphale and some security authorities such as second deputy inspector general of police John Nyondo.
The meeting was convened as per order of Supreme Court of appeal when it banned holding the demonstrations within 14 days.
The two parties met at Cross roads Hotel after shifting the meeting from civic offices and Bingu International convention centre because of security reasons.
Reacting to the incident HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo said the grouping is not safe because they are being followed.
“We feel that government is playing with us therefore HRDC will meet Kaphale only in presence of Malawi Defence Force soldiers,” Mtambo said
However, attorney general Kalekeni Kaphale denied to comment on the incident because he was inside the hotel when it happened.
Kaphale said “we will meet again on Wednesday where our lawyers will exchange paper sheets and agree on the way forward.”
Commenting, HRDC lawyer Khwima Mchizi asked government to provide enough security during next meetings.
