Malaria creates huge workload to health workers, pressure on drugs in Malawi

Ministry of health says Malaria is creating a huge workload to health workers and pressure on drugs in health facilities

This has been said as Malawi has joined other countries in commemorating Southern African Development Community SADC week.

Secretary for heath Dr Samson Mndolo says Malaria contributes to 19 percent of all out-patient department visits and 9 percent of all admissions

Mndolo has revealed that in Malawi reported malaria cases have reduced from 6.1 million in 2016 to 4.2 million in 2022 and deaths from 4000 to 1829.

He says though preventable and treatable malaria is still killing 5 people every day mostly under five children and pregnant women.

In order to control and eliminate the disease government has developed Malawi malaria elimination strategy for 2023 to 2023.
