Ministry of Water and Sanitation dissolves National Water Resources Authority

Minister of Water and Sanitation Abida Mia has dissolved National water Resources Authority- NWRA with immediate effect.

The Minister has dissolved the National water Resources Authority which was appointed in 2018

According to a press statement signed by Mia, “the dissolution is in accordance to Section 32 of General Interpretation Act which empowers the responsible Minister to appoint or dissolve the Board.”

The act provides for the management, conservation, use and control of water resources; for the acquisition and regulation of rights to use water; and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.

Reacting to the development executive director for Centre Environmental Policy CEPA, Herbert Mwalukomo has commended the minister for the action saying “this will pave way for the review of the works done by the Authority in the past five years.”

Mwalukomo says they expect that the ministry will appoint the new board soonest which will bring in expertise that will help in management of water resources in the country.
