Parliament passes political parties’ act amendment bill
Parliament has passed political parties’ act amendment bill which says manifestoes of political parties should be in line with Malawi vision 2063
Representatives of political parties in parliament which are Malawi Congress Party MCP, Democratic Progressive Party DPP and United Democratic Front UDF commented on the bill prior to passing it
However the parliamentarians recommended some changes in the bill before being made an act and signed by the president
In the afternoon political parties in parliament supported the pension act amendment bill which among others seeks to increase the money that pensioners get once they retire from 40 to 70 percent and reduce the time to get the funds among others.
Representatives of MCP, DPP and UDF spoke in support of the bill which was tabled by Member of Parliament for Likoma and Chizumulu Islands Ashems Songwe
They said the bill will help pensioners to do beneficial investments with their funds but asked Songwe to do more consultations with all stakeholders that will be affected with the bill.
