President Chakwera cancels all public engagements
President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has announced cancellation of all his upcoming public engagements.
In a press statement signed by secretary to president and cabinet Zanga-Zanga Chikhosi, the cancellation is with immediate effect adding that he wants to attend to emerging national and regional matters.
“All public events requiring the president’s presence will be delegated to other government officials,” Chikhosi
Among other functions Chakwera was expected to attend this year’s commemoration of world aids day on 1st December
The cancellation comes amid public outcry over president’s public engagements and travels people say are a waste of public resources.
Reacting to the development, political analyst Victor Chipofya has welcomed Chakwera’s decision to cancel public engagements.
Speaking to radio Islam, Chipofya said “this signifies that the president has listened to concerns of Malawians.”
