Asian Business Community lifts partial voluntary community lockdown

Asian Business Community ABC has lifted partial voluntary community lockdown that was enacted by its COVID-19 taskforce to prevent the spread of any imported cases of corona virus.

In an urgent announcement Chairman of the Taskforce Faizal Aboo said they have not had any new positive cases in their community for a month.

“All active cases have recovered at home without requiring hospital care and have tested negative.
We are satisfied that due to their stringent testing and isolation guidelines that we have successfully contained any first wave of imported corona virus cases.”

Abbo said the cost-benefit analysis of their community following a partial lockdown whilst there is no national lockdown suggests that the overall impact of such lockdown will not contribute significantly to reducing corona virus cases in Malawi.

The ABC taskforce leader added that this is because Malawi is now experiencing local transmission along with a wave of cases from Tanzania.
Therefore the taskforce says lifting the partial lockdown does not mean that corona virus risk has reduced in Malawi as cases are steadily increasing, hence practicing social distancing and hygiene practices must continue.

It has advised ABC community members to follow all guidelines of government and the taskforce put in place for containing corona virus.
