1 .5 Million Malawians to Benefit in 2023 AIP

Government says 1.5 million people will benefit in this year’s Affordable Inputs Program AIP.

Speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe, minister of agriculture Sam Kawale, says they have maintained the selling price of Fertilizer at 15.000 kwacha

According to Kawale, the country has 149,000 metric tons while 163,000 metric tons left last year and 67000 is with local companies.

Kawale says, Forex shortage has also affected this years’ AIP but was quick to say that ministry of finance has released money for AIP implementation.

He says, due to reforms in his ministry some farmers have been transferred from AIP to other programs which include the climate smart agriculture and goat rearing.

The minister says, so far they have delivered fertilizer in some parts of the country before official launch on 20th October in Kasungu which will be presided over by President Lazarus Chakwera.

Meanwhile, Kawale has reiterated that the ministry will use ADMARC and Small Holder Farmers Fertilizer Fund of Malawi selling markets adding they expect to have 378 selling points across the country.
