Two candidates withdraw by-elections nomination

Two candidates in 30th March by-elections in Nsanje central and Chikwawa east constituencies have withdrawn their nomination

According to letters from constituency returning officers informing Malawi Electoral Commission MEC of the issue the candidates are Laston Saidi Katole of United Democratic Front and Finason Brown Thengulo, an independent candidate

The constituency returning officers say names of those candidates have been deleted from the ballot paper.

Director of Media and Public relations at MEC Sangwani Mwafulirwa says “the law does not force the candidates to state reasons of withdrawal but only inform the commission formally.”

The by elections will be held in 7 constituencies and two wards following the death of their representatives and nullification of 2019 parliamentary elections by High court
