400 Egyptians Arrested In Protest Against President Third Term Bid

Around 400 people in Egypt have been arrested over “riot incidents” after President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi announced that he would run for a third term

President Sisi’s remarks sparked a rare display of public anger – in the city of Marsa Matrouh.

Egypt’s presidential elections are scheduled to take place in December.

Activists say Sisi’s term in office has been marked by brutal suppression of all opposition and the collapse of Egyptian economy.

The former army chief has been in power since he helped oust former president Mohammed Morsi in 2013.
