Auditor general tells PAC K6.2 billion report is truthful

Auditor general has told Public appointments committee of parliament PAC that the 6.2 billion kwacha report which it released is truthful, fair and complete based on the agreed upon procedures

Acting auditor general Thomas Makiwa said this when he appeared before the committee to answer on the investigative report of the usage and accountability of the covid-19 funds

Makina said National Audit Office had audited all clusters but did not report on all of them because some including police and MDF did not have any issues

“The auditors were not scared but the audit faced a number of challenges such as interdiction of controlling officers in district councils as well as arrest of accounting personnel at Department of Disaster Management Affairs which affected its speed,” Makiwa

However, Thyolo Central MP Ben Phiri says the report fell short of many details including who authorized the handpicking of suppliers to fumigate office of president and cabinet

Chiradzulu South lawmaker Joseph Mwanamveka told Makiwa that much a”s they were not intimidated by MDF and police the auditors were scared to do their job hence NAO did not find audit issues in the security agencies.”

Mwanamveka asked the acting auditor general to present a supplementary report on the two institutions just to clear the mist but the latter said professionally it is not necessary to issue it
