Chakwera calls on African Leaders to invest in Youth Development

President Lazarus Chakwera has called on fellow African leaders to invest more in youth and skills development to accelerate Human Capital Development to achieve African Agenda 2063.

Addressing delegates at Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit in Tanzania, Chakwera said channeling more resources to youth and skills development will widen economic opportunities.

He said his government, will invest between 15 and 20 percent of national budget in multiple effect ministries such as Education, Health, Labour and Youth, as a way of ensuring that the youth realize their potential, skills and contribute positively to agenda 2063.

President Lazarus Chakwera says World Bank has committed to continue helping Malawi deal with challenges the country is facing.

Chakwera was speaking in Lilongwe on Thursday morning, on arrival from Tanzania where he participated at Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit.

Chakwera said during the summit, he had an engagement with World Bank Vice President responsible for Southern and Eastern Africa, Victoria Kwakwa.

He has described the just ended Africa Heads of state Human Capital Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania as a milestone in exploring economic opportunities for the youth in Malawi.

Chakwera said the Summit has informed African nations that they need to channel more resources to the youth, despite economic challenges the countries are facing.

He further said Africa needs education that responds to the need of the people by promoting their capabilities as Human Capital for economic improvement.
