Chiefs, FOSEMA warn CSO’s over injunction on Nkhudzi bay Water Project
Chiefs and Forum for Social Economic Development for Mangochi FOSEMA have warned civil society organisations CSO’s that are challenging implementation of Nkhudzibay Water Project
This was said during a press briefing which FOSEMA in collaboration with Southern Region Water Board held in Mangochi to update the nation on the injunction three organisations obtained
The chiefs and FOSEMA said the due date for the stay order is over therefore the court should make its ruling on the matter
Publicity secretary for FOSEMA Alie Mwachande said it is worrisome seeing such an important project which will benefit 93000 people being disturbed by selfish individuals who are abusing the rights of the community to access portable and safe water
“UNESCO which promotes environmental conservation assessed and supported the project,” Mwachande
In his speech senior chief Namkumba lamented that communities are struggling to draw water in the lake which is at risk of water borne diseases
Namkumba said it is painful to see that some people are bringing unnecessary arguments in order to put the project in jeopardy
He urged government and members of parliament to hold hands for the completion of the project
