Churches protest against abortion and homosexuality bills
Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) and Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) have called on all Malawians to stand up and defend rights for their human and family dignity.
The two churches made the remarks ahead of a Pro-life and Pro-family March called “Citizens’ March for Life and Family” scheduled for Tuesday next week.
This comes amid reports that Parliament is expected to debate Termination of Pregnancy Bill and legalization of homosexuality campaigns bills.
According to the press statement made available to Radio Islam, abortion and homosexuality practices are unconstitutional, inhuman, goes against the cultural beliefs of Malawians and serious sins before God.
“It is important to respect, preserve and defend rights to life as well as institutional marriages of a man and a woman,” reads the statement.
The letter also appealed to all malawians to say no to strange practices promoted by western countries.
The demonstrations are expected to be conducted in all major cities of Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu and Zomba; and all 28 Districts in Malawi.
Abortion in Malawi is only carried out with exceptional to save the life of a pregnant woman in extreme conditions.
