Citizens for Progressive Action to Hold Vigil Against Mahatma Gandhi Statue

Citizens for Progressive Action, a grouping that sought injunction against construction of Mahatma Gandhi statue has warned to hold vigils at India’s consulate.

The warning has come amid reports that government of India is going to construct the statue at a conference centre which is expected to be built in Blantyre.

Speaking to journalists Pemphero Mphande chief strategist for Citizens for progressive Action issued a stern warning to governments of Malawi and India not to build Mahatma Gandhi state anywhere in the country failing which the grouping will mobilize the public to demonstrate against it and hold vigil at Indian embassy.

“We also condemn government and parliamentarians for accepting the bill to construct stadiums for Be Forward Wonders and Nyasa Big Bullets,” Mphande said

Government stopped the construction of the statue outside Queen Elizabeth Central hospital after Malawians protested against it.
