Communities Appeal for More Boreholes

Communities Appeal for More Boreholes

Communities around Uli Village Traditional Authority Sawali in Balaka district have appealed to well-wishers to drill more boreholes as they are still drawing water from unsafe wells.

The appeal was made when the Germany based charitable organization, Hilal Afrika, handed over a borehole to the communities, a development which will ease the problem.

Speaking during the ceremony, Group Village Headwoman Uli said her subjects are depending on unsafe wells along the nearby stream.

Headwoman Uli said the situation becomes worse in dry season when they walk long distances in search of water.

She however commended Hilal Afrika for the gesture but she asked for more saying people in the area are prone to waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery.

Responding to the plea the Chairperson for Hilal Afrika, Umut Turan, said he has taken note of the request and promised to present the issues to the potential donors.

Turan however advised the communities to take care of the boreholes saying it will motivate the well-wishers to bring more projects in the area.

He also emphasized the point that his organization is initiating several projects for the benefit of all Malawians regardless of the religious background.

The borehole has been constructed with the financial support by the two individuals, Nesibe Avci and Necmiye Acar.
