Demolishing dilapidated Blantyre buildings in March, 2016

Blantyre City Council (BCC) has set 1st March, 2016 as dateline to start demolishing dilapidated structures in the city.

Deputy Mayor of the city, Councilor Wild Ndipo, revealed this during a press briefing aimed at updating the nation on the progress of Red Star Campaign.

Speaking during the conference, Councilor Ndipo who is also Chairperson of the campaign said the city carried out the verification exercise where it found that 161 out of 380 buildings in Blantyre are earmarked for demolition.

“BCC re-launched the campaign to provide opportunities for replacing dilapidated buildings with modern ones that meet the present living and business infrastructure standards as well as improve the urban environment and cityscape,” Ndipo explained.
