EGENCO to conduct Tedzani Power Station maintenance, to reduce power generation

Electricity Generation Company EGENCO says will carry out major maintenance works at Tedzani Power Station which will reduce power generation

According to a Media release the works will involve installation of new fine screens and retrieving of a trash rake bucket from Saturday 26th to Monday 28th August

EGENCO Management says two Tedzani fine screens were dislodged from the intake structure during cyclone Freddy and trash rake bucket got stuck underwater at the bottom of the intake during trash raking operations in February

Furthermore there will be reduced power generation at both Nkula and Kapichira Power Stations due to low water flow in Shire River

As such EGENCO will reduce river flows at Kamuzu Barage in Liwonde to facilitate safe work environment at Tedzani

To install new placement fine screens and retrieve trash rake bucket the works require that the station’s reservoir be drained to allow for a safe working environment for engineers and divers

Therefore there will be no power generation at Tedzani Power Station during the stated period

Meanwhile the Electricity Generation Company says is important to carry out the works to ensure that intake screens are in perfect working condition before onset of rainy season
