EU Asks NICE Trust to Civic Educate Malawians on elections
European Union EU has called on NICE Trust to provide adequate electoral information to Malawians for the voters to choose good leaders in 2019 tripartite elections who can develop Malawi.
Lluis Navaro head of corporate EU delegation to Malawi made the call during official opening of a five days national training and planning workshop for NICE Trust staff and board members being held in Mangochi district.
Navaro said there is need for communities to know plans of aspiring leaders before electing them into power.
“I applaud NICE Trust for the role it plays in empowering people to take to task their leaders, demand respect of their rights as well as promote co-existence among citizens,” Navaro said
Commenting NICE Trust Board chairperson Susan Kaunda said the training will help to build a transformed team that considers good governance as a very crucial aspect of development.
“NICE Trust has contributed to the reduction of null and void votes from 4 percent to 1 percent,” Kaunda said
She also said NICE Trust will continue providing civic voter education prior to and after elections.
