FEDOMA Launches Awareness Project

Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) has embarked on a project which aims at giving knowledge to non-governmental organizations and government departments to mainstream disability issues in their projects.

Speaking during a training workshop with councilors and traditional authorities in Dedza FEDOMA Project Manager Naomi Kalua said many development projects in different NGOs and government sectors do not include needs of people with disabilities.

” The main aim of the training is to ensure that T/As include issues of people with disabilities when making by-laws for their districts,” said Kalua.

Chairperson for Dedza district council councillor Ozious Chidobvu said it is true that for some time the district council has been excluding needs of people with disabilities.

He hailed FEDOMA for the wakeup call saying that from now onwards the district will start making plans that will include the needs of disabled people.

FEDOMA is implementing the project in 12 districts including Dedza with funds from Department for International Development through National Democratic Institute.
