Government increases civil servants salary by 12%
Government has announced a 12% salary increment for civil servants effective 1st April 2022.
Confirming the development to Radio Islam, Civil Servants Trade Union general secretary, Madalitso Njolomole, says have reached this agreement with Government Negotiating Team after weeks of negations.
According to Njolomole, they are optimistic that government might made additional adjustments hence calling on their members to take the 12% and continue to work hard.
“Though we were looking for a 15 percent average salary hike, they are impressed with the 12 percent offered by their employer,” Njolomole
During the just ended parliament meeting the Parliamentary Cluster committee on Budget and Finance asked Ministry of Finance to consider reducing the Pay As You Earn (PAYE) bracket in order to accommodate civil servants, arguing that most of them receive low salaries.
Chairperson of the Cluster Committee Gladys Ganda said that after scrutinizing the 2022/23 national budget, they noted that the increase in the PAYE bracket is likely to affect livelihoods of civil servants as most of them earn little salaries.
