Learners under 18 years will not receive COVID-19 vaccine-Government

Government has said that no learners in primary and secondary schools under 18 years of age will receive AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

In a press release on information concerning COVID-19 vaccination Ministries of health and education schools will not be used as sites for COVID-19 vaccination, as such no school will be vaccination centre.

Signed by secretary for health Dr Charles Mwansambo and Raphael Agabu for secretary for education the statement says no one will be forced or tricked to take the vaccine

Dr Mwansambo and Agabu say currently only health facilities which belong to MoH as well as CHAM will host vaccination activities and taking the vaccine is free and by choice.

“People will be given all necessary information on the vaccine for them to make informed choices adding AstraZeneca vaccine is safe,” Dr Mwansambo & Agabu

Government has properly planned schedule for rolling out the vaccination programme and first group to be vaccinated are health workers.

The health and education Ministries say health facilities will announce vaccination days for groups from other professions who may want and are eligible for vaccination.

The priority will be given to members of Police Service, Military Service, Immigration, Teachers, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses like diabetes, high blood pressure and heart diseases.
