Malawi registers single case of covid-19

Malawi has registered a single case of covid-19, the first time in months.

In a statement, co-chairperson of the taskforce Dr John Phuka says the case which is a local transmission has been registered in the northern region.

Dr Phuka attributes the development to effectiveness of awareness campaigns.

Cumulatively the country has registered 5, 747 including 179 deaths and 4163 recoveries.

Meanwhile, Blantyre district health office says is winning the battle against covid-19.

According to Blantyre district medical officer Dr Zaziwe Gunda “the district has in recent weeks registered few cases of deaths and the number of recoveries is impressive as compared to the first weeks of the pandemic.”

Dr Gunda attributed the development to collaborative efforts among stakeholders as well change of whether.

However, Dr Gunda said presidential pardon of prisoners has jeopardized tracing efforts as some left the prison before getting their results.

He said the office is still making efforts to reach out to those who tested positive to covid-19.
