Malawi to roll out Malaria Vaccine

Minister of Health says a Malaria vaccine administration program will be rolled out by the end of this year targeting children of not more than 22 months.

Minister responsible, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda speaking during Commemorations of World Malaria day indicated that the vaccine will be rolled in selected districts that were piloted.

According to the Minister the vaccine will go nationwide in 2024.

“Malaria vaccine is a powerful tool to help fight Malaria as it has shown that it reduces cases by 40 percent,” Kandodo Chiponda

In her remarks, Country Representative for World Health Organization (WHO) Dr. Janet Kayita appealed for renewed political commitment among countries in sub-Saharan Africa in Malaria Control and Prevention programming.

Dr Kayita, said collaboration among partners is what is needed to escalate efforts towards ending Malaria.

She has encouraged countries to adopt the rollout of the Malaria vaccine as an additional tool to fight against the disease.

Commemorations for this year were held under the theme; Advance Equity, Build Resilience, End Malaria.
