MPLC Signs Elections Code of Conduct

Mangochi Multiparty Liaison Committee MPLC members who comprise religious leaders, chiefs, political parties and stakeholders have signed a code of conduct for 2019 Tripartite Elections in the district to be violence free.

Speaking after the signing ceremony Mangochi District Commissioner Mosses Chimphepo said it is a step forward towards peaceful polls as the district is prone to violence during elections period.

“According to the Code of Conduct political parties are advised to desist from castigating each other, observe issue based campaign and chiefs as well as religious leaders should be nonpartisan for peace and coexistence in the district,” Chimphepo explained.

Elections Officer for Malawi Electoral Commission in the southern region King Norman Rudi said the Code of Conduct has been formulated in line with elections Code of Conduct.

Rudi encouraged people in Mangochi to register when voter registration commences on 19th September in the district.
