MEC Registers over 80% in phase seven
The Malawi Electoral Commission MEC says it has registered over 80 percent of voters in the seventh phase of voter registration which covered the districts of Chitipa, Karonga, Machinga, Rumphi and Chiradxulu.
Commissioner Jean Mathanga made the remarks during a press conference organized to release the results in Lilongwe.
Commissioner Mathanga said the Commission has registered 735,764 voters against a projection of 905,780 Of these, 428,005 voters are women while 307,758 voters are men.
Currently, the commission says it has registered a total of 6,264,183 voters against a projection of 7,745,095 which translates into 81 percent of registrants in all the registration phases.
Meanwhile MEC, says preparations for the eighth phase of registration which begins in Nkhata bay, Likoma, Mxuxu city and Mximba have been finalized.
The final phase will commences on Saturday, October 27, and runs up to November 9, 2018.
