Muslim Youth United Hosts Blood Donation Camp

Muslim Youth United (MYU) says they have managed to collect more blood than the target during the blood collection exercise conducted in Blantyre.

According to Malawi Blood Transfusion Services (MBTS), the annual requirement for blood in the country is 120, 000 units but it only collects half of the requirement.

It is of this background that MYU carries out annual blood donor camp in order to reduce the risk of patients in need of blood transfusion.

Speaking during this year’s exercise, one of the members for MYU, Abdullah Panjwani, said the initiative is greatly achieving its intended purpose.

Panjwani however was quick to express his gratitude to the youth for patronizing to the camp which has led to the collection of more blood.

He also said MY will continue to work with MBTS in ensuring that hospital have adequate blood.

Speaking earlier, one of the Nurse Clinician at MBTS, Gabriel Thyangathyanga, commended MYU for the program.

Thyangathyanga added that MBTS this year has not collected enough blood due to covid 19 pandemic.

He therefore appealed to all Malawians to be open enough and donate blood.

During the camp people were also free to test for diabetes for free.
