Opposition leaders asks Malawi President to resign
Leader of opposition in parliament Dr Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to resign for failing to provide the critical leadership that Malawians need
In his speech marking the closure of the 49th session of parliament Nankhumwa said Chakwera’s suspension of public engagements to attend to emerging national and regional matters is too late and as his nonstop roadshows were wasting national resources
However, leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda criticized Nankhumwa by questioning how he got his PHD within two months and accused him of stealing MSCE certificate
The leader of opposition in parliament quoted a number of statements which the president made when he was leader of opposition which criticized the previous government that it was a failure
Nankhumwa says the recent travel ban could be a blessing to Malawi but a painful reminder that we ought to be thinking closer to home for solutions.
“It is a message to Chakwera that his travels to Europe could do nothing with Europeans in making decisions,” Nankhumwa
He joined Palestinian solidarity movement in condemning Chakwera for planning to establish embassy in Israel and voting against investigations on atrocities and war crimes by Israel in gaza
The opposition leader urged Chakwera and Tonse alliance to implement promises which were made during campaign amidst covid 19
He hailed Kenya for becoming the 6th rich country down from position 12 amidst the pandemic
Nankhumwa condemned the tendency of tonse government of blaming everything on global trends saying will simply not change status of common Malawians
He bemoaned the numerous challenges which integrated financial management information is bringing to Malawians
However Nankhumwa applauded members of the august house for their valuable contribution to the success of this sitting of parliament saying the quality of debate continues to improve by every sitting for the benefit of people.
But leader of the house Richard Chimwendo Banda criticized Nankhumwa for forcing Chakwera to resign
He questioned Nankhumwa’s qualifications especially on how he got his PHD in just two months and accused him of stealing MSCE certificate
However, speaker of parliament cautioned Chimwendo Banda on personal attacks
Meanwhile, Political analyst has urged members of parliament to be civilized and focus on people’s interest when contributing to deliberations in parliament.
The call comes following the exchange of words between leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhuwmwa and leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda.
During parliament closure, Nankhumwa in his speech asked President Dr Lazarus Chakwera to resign for failing Malawians and in response, Richard Chimwendo Banda accused Nankhumwa of not having a Malawi school certificate of Education MSCE and holding a suspicious PHD.
Speaking to radio Islam, political analyst Victor Chipofya said the verbal tirade is unfortunate asking the parliamentarians to put interest of Malawians first before their own.
