People cast their ballots in the November 10th by-elections

People have casted their ballots in the November 10th by-elections.
A visit to some of the polling stations after opening in Karonga Central, Lilongwe North West and Makhuwira ward in Chikwawa found people queuing to cast their ballots.
However in some polling centres in Lilongwe North West Constituency, few names of new registrants were missing.
Meanwhile the Malawi Electoral Commission says has put in place measures to enable such people to vote.
In a statement signed by MEC’s chief elections officer Sam Alfandika the commission has advised presiding Officers to check with the MEC Call Centre to verify names of people with valid MEC voter certificate but are not being found in the register.
Alfanfika said only those found in the original voter register will be allowed to vote.
Voting in Karonga central follows the death of its parliamentarian Dr Cornelius Mwalwanda, in Makhuwira, the death of its ward councilor whilst Lilongwe North east to replace Dr Lazarous Chakwera who won the country’s presidency in the June fresh presidential election.
Meanwhile, one of the contestants in Karonga central Learnald Mwalwanda has failed to cast his vote as he was registered in Lilongwe and there were no transfers allowed in the by-election.
