People with Disability ask Govt to prioritize them
Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi (FEDOMA) has asked different sectors of government to mainstream disability issues and not take them as charitable issues.
The project coordinator for FEDOMA Cecilia Phiri said it was time disability issues were implemented in every sector of government and other organizations to help handle better some issues affecting people with disabilities.
Phiri made the remarks during a District Executive Committee (DEC) meeting in Salima.
“There are a lot of projects and activities happening in different sectors of government, but do not include people with disabilities in planning as such they fail to include their views,” she sai.d
Commenting on the issue, Salima District Education Manager, Christopher Kumikundi said orientation was a timely reminder on mainstreaming disability issues.
The disability mainstreaming project is being implemented in five districts in the country and it is receiving funding from European Union.
