People’s party holds convention

Former president Dr Joyce Banda has said People’s party PP is the only party that has pro-poor agenda which can develop Malawi.

Dr Banda who is also president of PP said this during the opening of PP convention at Robins Park in Blantyre.

In her speech she said during PP regime the party had addressed some challenges such as fuel shortage and electricity blackouts in 100 days.

“PP improved bilateral and international relations because donors had trust and confidence in her government,” Dr Banda said

He mentioned 14 SADC presidents who visited Malawi during her tenure in office.

Speaking earlier chairperson of the organizing committee Dr Jere Jana said “PP convention will give chance to delegates to choose leaders who will steer the party into victory in 2019 elections.”

According to secretary general Ibrahim Matola 9 seats were up for grabs today.

Matola says “over 80 million kwacha has been spent on the convention.”

He says PP’s constitution has been amended for the party to have vice presidents in all the four regions among others.
