
Prioritise Welfare of Street Connected Kids-First Lady
First Lady Madam Monica Chakwera has called on the nation to prioritize welfare of children, especially street connected kids as they are also a foundation for building a better Malawi.
Speaking during commemoration of international Day for Street Connected Children at Kamuzu Palace, the First Lady described children as “a hope for the nation” and called on all Malawians to play an active role in securing their future.
She said if the country wants a better tomorrow, it must invest in children today by protecting and including them
The first lady commended various stakeholders for their continued efforts in advocating for child rights and creating safer spaces for every child.
Deputy Minister of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare, Halima Daudi, has called for collective effort in improving the lives of street connected children in Malawi.
Daudi said street connected children are among the most vulnerable groups in the society as they often face abuse, neglect and marginalization.
The Deputy Minister also said that the Ministry is reviewing existing child protection policies to ensure they fully uphold and safeguard rights of every child
