Supreme Court of appeal rejects State in Uladi bail appeal

Supreme Court of appeal has heard arguments by lawyers representing Uladi Mussa and Ant Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding an application for admission of bail pending hearing and determination of an appeal.

Mussa former Minister of Home Affairs and two others were convicted for fraudulently issuing of citizenship and passports foreigners including Burundians and Rwandans.

Lawyers of Mussa and ACB presented the arguments after Supreme Court of appeal dismissed application by the state to reject Mussa’s appeal

Presenting the argument before the supreme court of Appeal Judge, Lovemore Chikopa, one of the lawyers for Mussa, Chancy Gondwe, said “there are high chances that appeal will succeed.”

However, Director of Legal and Prosecution at ACB, Chrispin Khunga, prayed for the court to throw out the application saying “there is no reason for the convict to be granted bail.”

Khunga further said there is no special circumstance that may lead the applicant the right to bail.
