Seven people have died and three seriously injured after four vehicles were involved in an accident at Kanyimbo area in Ntcheu.
Public Relations Officer for Ntcheu police sub inspector Hastings Chigalu said driver of a freight-liner truck, registration NA 7947/NA 7626 coming from direction of Ntcheu heading Dedza failed to control the vehicle due to speeding.
He then encroached the other lane in the process he started hitting the vehicles which were coming from opposite direction CP 7947 Toyota Hiace Minibus, ABJ 6824 Toyota land cruiser, BL 8837 Nissan Diesel Lorry.
Due to impact seven people died on spot, four males and three females.
“Of the dead six are passengers from the minibus while the other one is a driver. Three people have sustained serious injuries, two males and one female,” Chigalu explained
They were admitted at Ntcheu district hospitals for medical attention.
Meanwhile, Police in Ntcheu has arrested truck driver who caused the accident Victor Chawinga 42 from Chiwaka village TA Mazengera in Lilongwe.
“Chawinga will be charged for the offences he committed and the truck belongs to KK properties,” Chigalu said
He says government through department of disaster management affairs will make all funeral arrangements.
The injured are receiving treatment at Ntcheu district hospital.
