TUM asks government, stakeholders to solve teachers grievances

As Malawi joins other countries in commemorating World Teachers Day, Teachers Union of Malawi TUM has urged government and other stakeholders to honor teachers by listening to their grievances.

TUM general secretary Charles Kumchenga told Radio Islam that teachers challenges can be solved through contact and dialogue with government and relevant stakeholders if education and teachers welfare are to be uplifted.

Kumchenga cited “long standing challenges like allowances, arrears, promotions and delayed salaries as some of the issues that demotivate teachers.”

He therefore called upon government to reintroduce initiative of awarding teachers and pay attention to their challenges.
