Two Malawian Universities closed

Malawi University of Sciences and Technology MUST and Mxuxu University have been temporarily closed.

A MEMO which radio Islam has accessed, the closure of MUST is due to water shortages and all students are advised to leave the campus by 16 hours on Monday.

Speaking to radio Islam later, registrar for MUST Dr. Tarsizius Nampota said water problems are a result of a breakdown of pumps that supply water to the campus.

“The temporary closure will affect the students as they are about to sit for the examinations,” complained Nampota.

He has meanwhile urged water board to rectify the problem as soon as possible.

Mxuxu University has also announced its closure effective Tuesday, 8 November, 2016.

A MEMO signed by registrar of Mxuxu University VJB Jedego the closure is due to the withdrawal of labour by its two staff unions since 26 October.

“We ask all students to surrender their keys and fill forms before leaving the campus,” stressed the statement.
