Zomba Maximum Prison calls on Islamic organizations to support Muslim inmates

Zomba Maximum Prison Chaplaincy department has called upon Islamic organizations to support Muslim inmates at the facility during this month of Ramadhaan

The plea was made by Chaplain Officer Sargent Elicious Phiri when Lilongwe Radio Islam Listeners Association Raila visited the facility where they donated some items for Iftar at the facility

According to Sargent Phiri, the Facility has 400 Muslims and almost 325 are observing fasting in this holy month of Ramadhaan but are lacking items to use during Iftar.

“Apart from Iftar items, Muslims at the facility also lack some items like Soap, Robes and Qur’aan for the facility’s Masjid,” Phiri

Sargent Phiri then hailed Lilongwe Raila for the gesture, saying this will help Muslims who are fasting

Speaking on behalf of the Association, one of the Trustees of the grouping Sheikh Ibrahim Chilopola said they thought of reaching out to the facility after understanding the challenges Muslim inmates go through during this month of Ramadhaan.

Sheikh Chilopola said “Islam encourages sharing with others and reaching out to them which is a way to go for every Muslim.”

On the challenges raised by the chaplaincy department, Sheikh Chilopola said the group will liaise with colleagues in mobilizing resources for the course.
