
DPP announces Primary Elections Date, Fees
Democratic Progressive Party DPP has announced that its primary elections for parliamentary and councilors will be held from 20th March.
Secretary General of DPP Peter Mukhitho says phase one of the primaries will be held in constituencies where the party has no sitting members of parliament while phase two in those with parliamentarians
Mukhitho says male parliamentary candidates will pay 500, 000 kwacha while females 250,000 kwacha, the youth 250,000 kwacha and persons with disabilities 200,000 kwacha
On ward councilors Mukhitho says men will pay 100,000 kwacha, females 50,000 kwacha, youth 50,000 kwacha while people with disabilities 40,000 kwacha
The aspirants have also been asked to pay the nomination fee of 20, 000 kwacha in order to participate in the primary elections.
He further says primaries for councilors will be conducted simultaneously with parliamentary primaries
DPP has stressed that these primaries are strictly open to bonafide party members
He says phase one will begin with northern region, then central region on 23rd March, eastern region on 26th and southern region 29th March
Therefore DPP has urged all members to actively participate ad uphold values of democracy within the party.
